Kids are finally out of school, and the summer heat is here to stay! If your kids are already going crazy inside the house, then plan a pool party! There’s nothing like the sun and the pool to wear kids (and adults!) out and make bedtime that much sweeter. Whether your child has a summer birthday or not, now is the perfect time to make fun memories poolside. Today we’ll show you how to plan a kid friendly pool party!
Games Galore!
Depending on the age of the kids at your pool party and how many toys you have (floaties, water sprayers and balls, oh my!) you may not need to plan any games to keep your guests entertained. If you want to be extra-prepared, here are some fun games that you can play.
Octopus tag is such a fun game to play in the pool! One person is “it,” and when they tag someone, they both become “it,” hold hands, and catch the next person. Eventually everyone will be holding hands and will circle around the pool until everyone is tagged.
You can also pick a few adults to judge the kids’ crazy jumps that they do in the deep end (safely, of course!).
Another fun game is push a watermelon. Divide the kids up into two teams and see which team can push a watermelon across the pool without having their feet touch the pool floor!
Yummy Poolside Eats
Nothing builds up and appetite like sunshine and playing in the water! Make sure that you have plenty of drinks to keep the kids (and adults!) hydrated in the heat. You can serve diffused water, lemonade or even mocktails like strawberry limeade for a refreshing drink.
A pool party can be as simple or dramatic as you want for it to be! Keep things simple by grilling hot dogs or hamburgers and putting out an ice cream bar with toppings for dessert.
Want to serve a few sides? You can put veggies into cups with Ranch dressing at the bottom or whip up this poolside fruit dip! Of course, you can always include kid friendly snacks such as Goldfish crackers.
If you really want to take things up a notch, you can serve sandwiches cut in the shape of a fish, a beach ball fruit pizza, pool noodle salad, and Jell-O fish bowl or these adorable beach-themed cupcakes for dessert.
4 Bonus Tips
- Have mandatory potty breaks. Whether you’re at a public or backyard pool, this is a must!
- Keep a first aid kit with waterproof band aids close by. There will always be one kid who runs near the pool and gets hurt, but it doesn’t need to ruin the party!
- Provide extra sunscreen so that no one goes home with a sun burn. You get extra brownie points if you help kids reapply sunscreen during the party!
- Put extra towels in a basket close to the pool. If one of your guests forgets their towel, you won’t have to search for a spare!
